Weed seeds are ever present in the soil and constantly settle on the lawn and landscape bed areas from air currents. Therefore, with moisture, weed seeds will germinate as well as grass seeds. Weeds can be controlled easily so there is no need to panic. Regular mowing at heights of 2½” - 3” will kill off many weeds. Any remaining weeds will be broadleaf weeds and grassy type weeds. Broadleaf weeds should be sprayed after your lawn has been established 8-10 weeks or has had at least 3 cuttings. Just before or during the fall is the best time to spray for weeds. Weeds will appear as time goes on. You can combat these problems by using herbicides to control them as needed, or hire S & E Ward’s to assist you in this process. We have trained staff and equipment to take care of your turf needs. If you decide to do this yourself always read and follow the label directions.
